Setting your daily drops
Where the setting lives, what the default is, and how to decide what a drop is worth.
Go to Settings > Your cup > Daily energy. It is a stepper from 1 to 9 drops. The default is 5.
The caption under it is the whole philosophy: how many drops you have on a normal day, and lower it on hard weeks. Changing it does not change any task cost. You simply have more or less to spend.
How much is a drop?
There is no formula and no test. A drop is however much a normal task takes out of you. The numbers only have to be consistent with each other, not with anybody else's.
A rough starting point that works for most people:
- 0 drops
- Costs you nothing. Moving the laundry over. Replying to one text.
- 1 drop
- A normal thing. Most tasks live here.
- 2 to 3 drops
- Something that needs a run-up. The Costco trip. A hard phone call.
- 4 to 5 drops
- The one you have moved four times already.
If you are ending most days with drops to spare, your daily number is too high. If you are empty by lunch every day, it may be too low, or the days genuinely are too full. The Ledger will show you which.
